'City Geeks' wildcard winners at first PUC Championships!

'City Geeks' wildcard winners at first PUC Championships!
You just couldn't write it! Like a scene straight from a Hollywood blockbuster…or at least one of those classic underdog movies, City Uni's wildcard entrants team 'City Geeks' pulled it out the bag in epic style and smashed (literally) their way to victory and triumphant immortalisation as the first ever national PUC champions!

Richmix was the battle ground and ping pong paddles the weapon of choice, as teams from Ox Brookes, Herts, UCLAN, and City Uni went paddle to paddle to paddle to paddle (well it was doubles) in a bid to win the greatest prize on earth…the PUC bragging rights for their university. And if that wasn't enough, we had some pretty sweet ping pong bats for the winners and runners up donated by Pongathon partners Bribar.

Having taken down all in their path in our special PUC styled single game, first to 15 clashes, City Geeks stood top of the group stages just ahead of Flappy Paddles. There was a tussle for third place as The A-B Team just pipped Team Hybrid, with Doug's Paddle Flappers keeping things real at the foot of the table.

With shade looks thrown, cheeky put down banter flowing, and montage worthy warrior poses flying in every direction the lights came down and music cranked up as City Geeks and Flappy Paddles took to the table for the finals. A best of three, first to 11 extravaganza! And what a final it was as Flappy Paddles came from behind to take the first game 11 - 9. City Geeks responded with a crushing 11 - 1 win to take game two. With all to play for we found ourselves at 9 all in the final game before City Geeks stepped it up to take the win.

As the tables got a wipe down and we snacked happy with some tasty Popchips, plans for the upcoming PUC season were already being formed and thoughts for next years championships glinted in the eyes. A massive thanks to all teams. You made it an amazing first PUC Championships and what a great day for City Uni…from coming in as wildcard entrants to taking the crown!
